My daddy was the worshipful master in my hometown lodge in Lexington, Alabama. My daddy was a great man. He served in the masons for a long time and even got them a new lodge built!! He was trust worthy, honest and a hard working man. As a child I remember going into the lodge and having to sit in a little area. I would always ask him questions about the masons. My mother was also an Eastern star. She held a high title too. I was a Daddys girl and even before he passed away he wouldn’t tell me anything. All he would tell me was it was a good thing and that they help people. Love and miss you daddy.

Greetings all,
I have been a member of Blue Lodge since 1989. I am about to embark on my second time in the Masters Chair.

The first time, was 4 years ago while in Australia, it was exciting, exhilarating, enjoyable and very humbling.

I have be elected to be the Master of my current lodge in New Zealand. I look forward to the challenge and the enjoyment.

Our Secretary has been “Jack of all trades” for many years and is loathe to release the work, however, as Master I feel it is necessary to EASE some of his burden and as such will be delegating some of the work to other lodge members.

May you find peace, love and happiness in your lodge

My Father was Worshipful Master of his lodge here in Houston, Tx. He was and still is the best man I’ve ever known. Even in the after life he lives and carries out his honorable duty to stand guard in my daily living in this realm. He was always there for me growing up, and is still with me. I love you, Daddy!

If all this is true, then why do so many American lodges elect the youngest and newest members of the lodge to the office of Worshipful Master? Historically, the Master of the lodge should be a senior member with years of Masonic experience, who is respected, knowledgeable, kind, patient, fair, trustworthy, courteous, good-natured, and willing to listen. He is a man who seeks consensus among the brethren, not someone who makes rash decisions and issues unpopular edicts. But, too often, when lodges elect men to the “bottom of the line,” they simply choose “the best of what’s left,” while the best candidates for Worshipful Master are already Past Masters, who are considered ineligible for the job because they have already spent one year in the East. What a shame. The idea of running everyone “through the chairs” is the worst thing that has happened to American Freemasonry.

In theory this is all very well, however when the Secretary of the Lodge has previously been left with all this as a caretaker . It is sometimes hard for him to relinquish this assumed responsibility.
