The Knights Templar and Assassin's Creed

It is no secret that Assassin's Creed is one of the most famous video games. Ubisoft created the franchise in 2007 and has since released a series that captures the passion of gaming.

However, what makes Assassin's Creed loved by most video games fans is more than a great storyline and flawless visuals and graphics. The game is heavily influenced by many historic events. If you have played the game, you have probably learned a fact or two. The third game of the series, for example, tells a detailed story about the life of the Knights Templar.

In the story, the order is portrayed as the villain against whom the Assassins combat. The prehistorical incarnation of the order serves as the monastic order that is the main antagonist of the story.

In the series, the Templars are represented as an order which seeks to create and maintain a perfect world, even if the means are destructive. This idea is shared by many historians concerning the order. The Templars were so eager to live according to the Rule and not free will. They believed that free will and the absence of law-abiding in one's life is the source of all the unfortunate.

There is a core ideological difference between the Templars and the Assassins, which resulted in a furtive war for over a thousand years. The protagonists in the story are advocates of free will and the necessity of the liberty of choosing, regardless of all the flaws it creates.

Many parts of the story are based on fiction. However, there is more truth in the game than one would think. The decision behind including the Templars in a historical game is not arbitrary. For centuries, the order has been the subject of numerous speculations and conspiracy theories. It is only natural for it to be part of a game that revolves around an ideological conflict.
