It is understood that no matter how united Brothers are, there may arise one or two issues that can cause disputes between them. The Masonic Grievance Committee is needed to help resolve any grievance that may arise between Masonic Brothers. They act as intermediaries to resolve issues that may exist between a Lodge and a Brother.

The Grievance Committee in Lodges could have rules that slightly vary from one another. It is advisable that you obtain a copy of bylaws and the Constitution of the Grand Lodge from your country or state.

Regardless of the slight differences, here is a basic guide to the formation of a Masonic Grievance Committee.

The Masonic Grievance Committee typically consists of three to five Brothers as appointed by the Worshipful Master. These Brothers are typically Past Masters held in high esteem in the Lodge. Past Masters provide the much-needed experience to ensure that issues can be resolved peacefully and amicably.

But if there are not enough Past Masters in the Lodge, Master Masons may be included in the Masonic Grievance Committee.

Anyone that has a grievance against another member in the Lodge should approach someone in the Masonic Grievance Committee, so a fair solution can be brought forward.

Any issue brought before the Masonic Grievance Committee is well examined, and both parties are questioned in a gentle manner to understand what caused the conflict. Once the committee has a thorough understanding of the conflict, they will resolve the issue in a manner that is fair to all parties. They will do this in a way that both parties are pleased, and all hard feelings are gone.

The Masonic Grievance Committee plays a significant role in ensuring the harmony and peace of the Lodge. If your Lodge does not have a Masonic Grievance Committee, you can discuss the possibility of establishing one with your Worshipful Master who will also gladly listen to any grievance that you may have.
