The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry or in short, The Scottish Rite, is one of the appendant bodies a Master Mason joins to further their knowledge of the teaching and values of Freemasonry. The Scottish Rite is not officially recognized by the Grand Lodge in England and in some other countries. In the United Sates, however, the Scottish Rite is an extension to higher degrees of Freemasonry. The Scottish Rite is an independent body with it's own central authority known as the Supreme Council. In the United States, the different lodges and chapters have different corresponding degrees depending on jurisdiction.
